Basic Alcohol Assessment

Attorneys may proactively recommend this type of assessment for clients facing charges for alcohol-related offenses like disorderly conduct, public intoxication, or other misdemeanors. Similarly, prosecutors, judges, and probation officers may recommend or require an individual to undergo this type of assessment as a part of their legal process for an alcohol-related offense.

A Basic Alcohol Assessment will help individuals determine the impact alcohol is having on their life and provides insight into the next steps. Additionally, this type of assessment can help identify potential issues and offer those facing legal repercussions a chance to start working on these issues ahead of their court date, which is often beneficial to their case.

General Drug and Alcohol Assessment

This assessment is similar to the basic alcohol assessment, but some judges or state licensing bureaus prefer to include all types of substance use in the assessment. Some authorities link alcohol and drug problems together and like to get an idea of both, while in other cases they are used for offenders who have received a drug-related DUI.

A General Drug and Alcohol Assessment is used to help determine the extent of a person’s use or abuse of substances and will suggest how to treat them to achieve an optimum outcome. Often it is determined that substance abuse is not present, and in fact, the legal charges were the result of an atypical situation or lapse in judgment that isn't part of someone's normal pattern of behavior.

DUI Assessment

Attorneys often recommend a DUI Assessment to clients facing DUI charges, because it can be beneficial for their clients. The assessment shows if the client does, or does not, have a problem and the level of risk due to their alcohol use or abuse. Clients can start working on recommendations before their court date showing they are proactive.

A DUI Assessment is used to determine an appropriate and meaningful plan for an individual after they have been arrested for a DUI. Based on a questionnaire and interview, recommendations are made for individuals that may include treatment, education, or other appropriate steps. In cases where there is no diagnosis of an alcohol or drug use disorder and the risk profile is low, there may be no recommendations made and a clear statement of the rationale. This too is helpful to the judges, prosecutors, and probation officers handling DUI cases to bring them to closure.

DOT/SAP Assessment

The federal Department of Transportation has a drug-testing program with protocols that must be followed for all “safety-sensitive” workers. This includes employees in industries like aviation, railroads, trucking, pipeline, the federal transit authority, and the Coast Guard.

An SAP or Substance Abuse Professional assessment is used in situations where an employee tests positive, or if they refuse or miss a test without notice, or with a sudden excuse. An SAP is required to move forward in the return-to-duty process. The two-part assessment consists of an initial evaluation where recommended next steps are provided. After completion of education or treatment recommendations, the employee must return for a follow-up and the evaluator determines whether or not they are ready for the next step in the return-to-duty process.

Receive the Report

Your report will be emailed to you in 5 business days, or sooner with rush selected. From there, you can review the results and share them with your attorney and court officials. Keep in mind, that you will be able to see your results before you share them.
